Tetris Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of fans with niche passions.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
